In an effort to prevent milfoil from invading Worthley Pond, as has happened to many other Maine lakes and ponds, Courtesy Boat Inspections have been done since 2006.  Today, inspections are done every weekend, Friday-Sunday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Our Courtesy Boat Inspection workers are typically high school and college aged students who get paid an hourly rate equivalent to Maine’s minimum wage.  An inspector’s job is easy and does not require extensive training.  You simply inspect each boat, trailer and/or fishing equipment, looking for any plant fragments. If found, put them in plastic bags for identification by one of our experts.  You also educate boaters about inspecting their own boats and why it is so important.

Here is some additional courtesy boat inspection information from the State of Maine:

Interested in joining our team of inspectors?  Please contact Jim Denholm or Sherry Barstow.  The health of our pond depends on it!!  Once milfoil enters a pond, it can not be eradicated or removed.  We can only attempt to “manage the infestation,” i.e. keep it from spreading to other areas of the pond.
